She is a renowned cellist and educator, serving as Professor of Cello and Head of the Cello and Double Bass Department at China’s Central Conservatory of Music. She has received the Fok Yingdong Education Foundation Award for Young University Teachers, serves as Chair of the Jury for the Aiqin Cup International Cello Competition, and has performed as an invited artist at the Menuhin Youth International Violin Competition. A DAAD scholarship recipient, she is also a specially invited lecturer for “Cello Music Education” at the China National Art Fund.

As a cellist, Ma Wen impresses with her sensitive, profound, and expressive playing. During her studies at the Central Conservatory of Music, she won first prize—the “Highest Special Award”—at the second National Cello Competition in China. After joining the faculty of her alma mater, Ma studied in Germany at the Rostock University of Music and Theatre, where she graduated with top marks (Konzertexamen doctorate).

As the head of the Cello and Double Bass Department in the Orchestral Instruments Division at the Central Conservatory of Music, China’s leading music institution, Ma Wen has cultivated numerous outstanding cello talents over decades of dedicated teaching. Her students’ achievements include top prizes at the Antonio Janigro Junior Cello Competition (youth division) and honors such as the China Music Golden Bell Award, the Beijing International Music Competition, and the National Cello Competition. Some students have earned excellent placements at the Munich International Music Competition, Fehrmann Grand Prix, and other well-known international competitions. Many of her students hold important positions in orchestras and music schools domestically and internationally, including principal cellists of the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, Wiesbaden State Orchestra, and Darmstadt State Theatre in Germany; the Macao Symphony Orchestra, China Opera and Dance Theater, and other orchestras in China; as well as associate principal cellist of the Belgian National Symphony Orchestra.

Ma Wen is recognized as one of China’s leading cello pedagogues and has been invited to give masterclasses, lectures, and concerts at numerous international music festivals and camps in Europe, the USA, South Korea, the Royal Danish Academy of Music, and many Chinese conservatories including Tianjin, Xi’an, Wuhan, Zhejiang, and Guangzhou.

In addition to her teaching activities, Ma Wen is also active as a soloist. She regularly performs in major concert halls and national-level events in China. Together with the China Youth Symphony Orchestra, she premiered the cello concerto by renowned Chinese composer Ma Sicong, whose recording was released by the China Record Corporation. She has also appeared with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, China Youth Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Tianjin Symphony Orchestra, Shanxi Philharmonic Orchestra, and Kunming Symphony Orchestra. The Beijing Global Audio & Video Publishing House released her live concert album “Ma Wen Cello Concert Collection.” In recent years, she has released the albums “Russian Cello Sonatas,” “Cello and Harp,” and “Beethoven Cello Sonatas.” Her repertoire is extensive and diverse, characterized by strong emotional contrasts, drama, and heartfelt lyricism. “The combination of her beautiful tone and noble character makes her music truly moving…,” praised Lynn Harrell.

Ma Wen actively participates in musical community activities and has made outstanding contributions to the popularization and development of the art of cello in China. The Aiqin Cup International Cello Competition is the only competition in China dedicated exclusively to cello performance. It is also the oldest, most widely recognized, and most attended competition with the most authoritative evaluation system, covering both professional and amateur fields in China. Since 2017, Ma Wen has served as a member of the organizing committee and president of the jury for this major Chinese cello event.

In the field of academic research, Ma combines her extensive performance and teaching experience to create her own editions of fingerings and bowings for several cello sonatas, including César Franck’s Sonata in A major, Schubert’s Arpeggione Sonata in A minor, and Beethoven’s complete cello sonatas. These new editions are based on classical traditions and imbued with individual expressive character. Ma Wen’s pioneering research work in this area has been published by the People’s Music Publishing House and the Central Conservatory of Music Publishing House in China.

Nach ihrer Berufung in die Fakultät ihrer Alma Mater studierte Ma in Deutschland an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock, wo sie mit Bestnoten (konzertexamen) promovierte.

Als Leiterin des Fachbereichs Violoncello und Kontrabass im Department für Orchesterinstrumente des Central Conservatory of Music, der führenden Musikinstitution Chinas, hat Ma Wen über Jahrzehnte hinweg zahlreiche herausragende Cellotalente Chinas ausgebildet. Zu den Erfolgen ihrer Schüler zählen Spitzenpreise beim Antonio Janigro Junior Cello Competition (Jugendgruppe) sowie Ehrungen wie der China Music Golden Bell Award, der Beijing International Music Competition und dem Nationalen Cellowettbewerb. Ma Wen gilt als eine der führenden Cellopädagoginnen Chinas und wurde eingeladen, Meisterklassen, Vorträge und Konzerte auf zahlreichen internationalen Musikfestivals und Camps in Europa, den USA, Südkorea sowie an der Königlichen Dänischen Musikakademie und an vielen chinesischen Hochschulen wie Tianjin, Xi’an, Wuhan, Zhejiang und Guangzhou zu geben.

Der Aiqin Cup International Cello Competition ist der einzige Wettbewerb in China, der sich ausschließlich auf Cellospiel spezialisiert hat. Er ist zudem der älteste, am weitesten verbreitete und am meisten besuchte Wettbewerb mit dem anerkanntesten Bewertungssystem, das sowohl professionelle als auch Amateurfelder in China abdeckt. Seit 2017 ist Ma Wen als Mitglied des Organisationskomitees und Präsidentin der Jury dieser bedeutenden chinesischen Celloveranstaltung tätig.

Im Bereich der wissenschaftlichen Forschung verbindet Ma ihre langjährige Performance- und Unterrichtserfahrung und erarbeitete eigene Editionen von Griff- und Bogentechniken für mehrere Cellosonaten, darunter die Sonate in A-Dur von César Franck, die Arpeggione-Sonate in a-Moll von Schubert sowie Beethovens vollständige Cellosonaten. Diese neuen Editionen basieren auf klassischen Traditionen und sind von einer individuellen Ausdruckskraft geprägt. Die People’s Music Publishing House sowie das Central Conservatory of Music Publishing House veröffentlichten Ma Wens bahnbrechende Forschungsarbeiten in diesem Bereich in China.

Jens Peter Maintz enjoys an outstanding reputation as a versatile soloist, sought-after chamber musician, and dedicated, successful cello professor.

Born in Hamburg, he studied with David Geringas and attended masterclasses with other great cellists such as Heinrich Schiff, Boris Pergamenschikow, Frans Helmerson, and Siegfried Palm. Furthermore, his intensive chamber music studies with Uwe-Martin Haiberg and Walter Levin deeply influenced him.

In 1994, he won first prize at the International ARD Music Competition, which had not been awarded in the cello category for 17 years prior.

He gained valuable orchestral experience as principal cellist of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and traveled worldwide as a member of the renowned Trio Fontenay.

Since 2006, invited by Claudio Abbado, Jens Peter Maintz has been the principal cellist of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.

His solo career has brought him together with conductors such as Vladimir Ashkenazy, Herbert Blomstedt, Marek Janowski, Dmitry Kitayenko, Franz Welser-Möst, Reinhard Goebel, and Bobby McFerrin. He has performed with orchestras including the Radio Symphony Orchestra Berlin, MDR Symphony Orchestra Leipzig, RSO Stuttgart, Residentie Orchestra The Hague, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Besides the classical repertoire, Jens Peter Maintz has also premiered numerous works by contemporary composers, from Isang Yun to Georg Friedrich Haas.

Since 2004, he has taught as a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts, where he leads a highly successful cello class. Many of his students have won major international competitions and/or hold leading positions in prominent orchestras.

Jens Peter Maintz is also a highly sought-after chamber musician – he is a member of the prestigious “Spectrum Concerts Berlin” series and performs with chamber music partners such as Janine Jansen, Boris Brovtsyn, Torleif Thedéen, as well as with Hélène Grimaud, Kolja Blacher, Isabelle Faust, Antoine Tamestit, and the Artemis, Carmina, and Auryn Quartets.

Together with Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, he has formed the cello duo “Cello Duello” for 25 years, performing at major cello festivals worldwide, such as the Kronberg Festival, the Cello Biennale Amsterdam, and the Piatigorsky Festival in Los Angeles.

For his solo CD featuring works by Bach, Dutilleux, and Kodály released by Sony Classical, Jens Peter Maintz was awarded the ECHO Klassik. The label Berlin Classics released his highly acclaimed recording of Haydn’s cello concertos, accompanied by the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen.

In the 2018/19 season, Jens Peter Maintz will appear as “artist in residence” with the Hamburger Camerata in a total of five concerts. He will be a soloist with the orchestra at the Elbphilharmonie and will also conduct it in further concerts. An extensive chamber music project with Janine Jansen will take him to Munich, Utrecht, the Salzburg Mozart Week, and the Bodensee Festival. He will also perform with his project Cello Duello both with orchestra and in recitals. The season will be rounded off chamber musically by several concerts together with the Minguet Quartet.

Die Pianistin Annegret Kuttner beeindruckt das Publikum durch die Natürlichkeit ihrer Interpretation sowie die Leichtigkeit und Klarheit ihres Spiels.

Nach erfolgreicher Teilnahme am Robert-Schumann-Klavierwettbewerb in Zwickau trat Annegret bereits im Alter von 16 Jahren als Solistin in Konzerten in Deutschland und anderen europäischen Ländern auf, unter anderem mit dem Europäischen Jugend-Orchester.

Sie absolvierte ihr Klavierstudium an der Hochschule für Musik „Carl Maria von Weber“ Dresden bei Professor Peter Rösel und erhielt weitere musikalische Impulse in Meisterkursen bei Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Pavel Gililov und Amadeus Webersinke.

Annegret ergänzte ihre Ausbildung durch ein Aufbaustudium in Klavierbegleitung (als Répétiteurin) bei Professor Monika Raithel sowie durch das Studium des Cembalos bei dem international renommierten Experten für Alte Musik, Professor Ludger Rémy.

Annegret Kuttner ist derzeit Lehrende an der Hochschule für Musik und Theater „Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy“ Leipzig.

Neben ihrer Lehrtätigkeit tritt die gefragte Pianistin regelmäßig als Solistin und Kammermusikerin in verschiedenen musikalischen und kulturellen Zentren in Deutschland und im Ausland auf. Konzertreisen führten sie unter anderem in die Tschechische Republik, nach Polen, in die Schweiz, die Türkei, nach Lettland, Irland, Südafrika und in die USA.

Annegret musiziert regelmäßig mit Benjamin Schmid, Antje Weithaas, Natalia Prishepenko, Pauline Sachse, Ivan Zenaty und Robert Oberaigner. In New York spielte sie gemeinsam mit dem Cellisten Peter Bruns Beethovens vollständige Werke für Cello und Klavier. Dieses Konzert wurde vom Publikum und der Presse gleichermaßen begeistert aufgenommen (New York Sun).

Verschiedene international anerkannte CD-Aufnahmen sind erschienen, darunter Werke für Cello und Klavier von Louis Vierne und Charles-Marie Widor, von Robert Schumann und Robert Volkmann sowie anlässlich des Beethoven-Jubiläums 2020 zusammen mit Peter Bruns/cello der Zyklus „Beethoven – Most Complete 1-3“, der das bekannte Repertoire von fünf Cellosonaten und drei Variationssätzen um weitere drei Sonaten und Bearbeitungen von Beethoven selbst und dessen Zeitgenossen erweitert, darunter die Sonate op. 64 (!) und die „Kreutzer“-Sonatenbearbeitung für Cello von Carl Czerny.

Pianist Annegret Kuttner impresses the audience with the naturalness of her interpretation and the lightness and clarity of her playing.

After successfully participating in the Robert Schumann Piano Competition in Zwickau, Annegret has performed already at the age of 16 as a soloist in concerts in Germany and other European countries, including with the European Union Youth Orchestra.

She completed her piano studies at the Dresden Academy of Music with Professor Peter Rösel, and received further musical impetus from masterclasses with Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, Pavel Gililov, and Amadeus Webersinke.

Annegret augmented her training with postgraduate studies on piano accompaniment (as a répétiteur) with Professor Monika Raithel as well as studying harpsichord with the internationally renowned expert on ancient music, Professor Ludger Remy.

Annegret Kuttner now teaches at the Academy of Music and Theatre, Leipzig.

In addition to her teaching post, the highly sought-after pianist regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician in diverse musical and cultural centres in Germany and abroad. Concert tours have taken her to the Czech Republic, Poland, Switzerland, Turkey, Latvia, Ireland, South Africa, and the USA.

Moeko Ezaki was born in Tokyo. She already has an active concert career, including performances as a soloist with the MDR Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy, and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.

The pianist graduated from the highly respected Toho Music High School in Japan and subsequently studied both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris under Professors Frank Braley and Haruko Ueda. From 2019, she studied at the University of Music and Theatre “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” Leipzig with Prof. Gerald Fauth, where she successfully completed her master’s concert diploma in the summer of 2022 with the highest distinction, “with honors.”

Since 2023, she has been working as a lecturer at the Leipzig University of Music.

Moeko Ezaki has also received numerous awards at international competitions, including the 8th International Piano Competition in Verona, Italy; the 26th International Piano Competition in Epinal, France; the International Salzburg Mozart Competition for Chamber Music; and the 4th International Piano Competition in Tokyo, Japan.

In recent years, she has been active in numerous chamber music concerts with renowned artists. She regularly performs in the Mendelssohn Hall of the Leipzig Gewandhaus and has also played in the Chamber Music Hall of the Berlin Philharmonic, with the Staatskapelle Dresden, and at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.

Ebenfalls erhielt Moeko Ezaki zahlreiche Preise bei internationalen Wettbewerben, darunter beim 8. Internationalen Klavierwettbewerb in Verona/Italien, beim 26. Internationalen Klavierwettbewerb in Epinal/Frankreich, sowie beim Internationalen Salzburg-Mozart Wettbewerb für Kammermusik und beim 4. Internationalen Klavierwettbewerb in Tokio/Japan.

Regelmäßig tritt sie im Mendelssohn-Saal des Gewandhauses Leipzig auf und hat zudem im Kammermusiksaal der Berliner Philharmonie, in der Staatskapelle Dresden sowie in der Elbphilharmonie Hamburg gespielt.

Yukino Kaihara was born in Hiroshima, Japan. In 2015, she reached the semifinals of the International Long-Thibaud-Crespin Competition in Paris, and in 2016, she qualified for the preliminary round of the International Chopin Competition in Warsaw. In the same year, she won 3rd prize at the 14th Tokyo Music Competition, one of the most prestigious competitions in Japan.

She has performed as a soloist with renowned Japanese orchestras such as the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2018, she made her debut at Suntory Hall with Ravel’s Piano Concerto.

Yukino Kaihara graduated with honors from the Tokyo University of the Arts and received four special prizes. She has been awarded numerous scholarships, including the Munetsugu Angel Fund, the Yamaha Music Scholarship, and the Rohm Music Scholarship.

Among her most important teachers is Prof. Kei Itoh in Japan. She is currently continuing her studies at the Berlin University of the Arts with Prof. Björn Lehmann.

As a sought-after chamber musician and piano accompanist for string players, she regularly performs in Japan and Europe — at concerts, competitions, and masterclasses. Since 2023, Yukino Kaihara has been working as a répétiteur at the Berlin University of the Arts, and starting in 2025, she has also taken on a teaching position at the Franz Liszt University of Music in Weimar.

Seit 2023 ist Yukino Kaihara Dozentin als Korrepetitorin an der Universität der Künste Berlin tätig, und ab 2025 hat sie zusätzlich einen Lehrauftrag an der Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar übernommen.

Solo concerts and recitals have taken Peter Bruns to the most renowned music centers, including the Berlin Philharmonic, New York’s Carnegie Hall, London’s Wigmore Hall, Tokyo and Hong Kong, the Semperoper Dresden, the Leipzig Gewandhaus, as well as major festivals such as Kuhmo and Bergen, the Berlin and Dresden Music Festivals, the Budapest Spring Festival, and Gidon Kremer’s Lockenhaus Festival.

Peter Bruns is a soloist with many major orchestras, including touring with the Saxon State Orchestra Dresden, the RAI Symphony Orchestra, the MDR Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. He has worked with conductors such as Giuseppe Sinopoli (†), Herbert Blomstedt, Colin Davis, Eliahu Inbal, Thierry Fischer, Christoph Prick, Marc Albrecht, Michael Jurowski, and Bruno Weil. His engagement with the musical language of various styles and epochs has led to close collaborations with renowned ensembles such as the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. As the artistic director of the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra Leipzig, he regularly performs as soloist and conductor with this ensemble.

In recent seasons, Peter Bruns has performed in many German music centers, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Cologne Philharmonic, the Margravial Opera House Bayreuth, the Choriner Musiksommer, and the MDR Musiksommer, as well as internationally at the Musikverein Vienna, Tokyo, Auckland, Beijing, Bangkok, Seoul, and Israel. His repertoire includes works by Haydn and Dvořák, as well as concertos by Beethoven (Triple Concerto), Boccherini, Schumann, Dutilleux, Gulda, Volkmann, and Offenbach’s “Concerto militaire.” Upcoming highlights of this season include invitations to perform at the Philharmonie Essen, Philharmonie Cologne, Hamburg, and Bremen, among others, with Reinhold Friedrich and Daniel Ottensamer.

Born in Berlin, he studied in his hometown with Professor Peter Vogler at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler.” From 1993 to 2000, he was one of the artistic directors of the Moritzburg Festival. From 1998 to 2005, he held a professorship for cello at the Dresden University of Music and since 2005 has held the same position at the Leipzig University of Music.

Peter Bruns has recorded a number of award-winning CDs, including complete recordings of the Brahms sonatas, the Bach suites, works by Gabriel Fauré, Ernest Bloch, Charles Koechlin, Robert Schumann, Robert Volkmann, Charles-Marie Widor, and Louis Vierne. He also recorded the A minor concerto by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (Cannes Classical Award “Best CD of the Year”), the complete works of Antonín Dvořák for cello and orchestra with the Staatskapelle Dresden, and the highly acclaimed recordings of the cello concertos by Haydn, Schumann, and Volkmann with the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra Leipzig.

Following the recording of Friedrich Gulda’s concerto for cello and wind orchestra with the Saxon Wind Philharmonic on the CD “Images and Mirrors” (GENUIN classics), he recently released with the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra Leipzig the CD “Cosmopolitan Mendelssohn” featuring works by Mendelssohn, Berlioz, Volkmann, Donizetti, and Gade on the Klanglogo label. In 2020, “Beethoven – Most Complete! 1–3” was released, featuring duo recordings with pianist Annegret Kuttner, including not only the common sonatas but also rarely or never before recorded rarities, such as Sonata Op. 64 (!) and the cello arrangement by Beethoven’s student Carl Czerny, which was performed during Beethoven’s lifetime.

Peter Bruns plays on an instrument by Carlo Tononi, Venice 1730, which once belonged to the legendary Spanish cellist Pablo Casals.

Peter Bruns ist Solist vieler bedeutender Orchester, so z. In Berlin geboren, studierte er in seiner Heimatstadt bei Professor Peter Vogler an der Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“.
